About the role#
As an R & D Intern, you will research, design, and evaluate materials, assemblies, processes, and equipment within our plants. You will support designated U.S. plants by monitoring raw material utilization, plant efficiencies, and analytical targets to maximize profitability. This role involves documenting research work, staying current on new dairy technologies, and assisting with the installation and commissioning of new equipment.
What you'll do#
- Perform microbiological, analytical, and organoleptic analysis on milk, whey, and cheese products to ensure they meet specifications.
- Conduct sample preparation and analytical tests, including moisture, pH, salt, fat, total solids, chlorides, COD, rennet, starter activity, mojonnier, kjeldahls, and Gel Electrophoresis.
- Set up, operate, maintain, clean, and calibrate laboratory equipment.
- Interpret test results, sort data, and ensure information is reported in a timely manner.
- Monitor and improve product quality by reviewing plant problems and participating in corrective actions.
- Review cheese make records and provide recommendations for process improvements.
- Assist in coordinating product development activities at the plants.
What you'll need#
- A bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Dairy Technology, or a related field.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and presentation software for data collection, analysis, and reporting.
- Experience or education in corporate communications.
- Ability to interpret technical information in mathematical or narrative form and work with abstract and concrete variables.
- Strong writing skills and the ability to communicate professionally with press and community contacts.
- High attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to prioritize accuracy while multi-tasking.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team while maintaining professionalism.
- Flexibility to work varying hours and overtime as needed.

- Travel: Ability to travel 50% of the time is required.
