About the role#
As an Engineering Co-op at Salient Motion, you will embed with our team to work on mechanical, electrical, software, manufacturing, and systems-level projects. This role is designed for students who want to see a project through its full cycle, from specification to qualification. You will own real work, contribute to production hardware, and operate as a member of the engineering team for a period of six months or longer.
What you'll do#
- Own a scoped engineering workstream from design through test and release.
- Design, build, and test electro-mechanical systems and subassemblies for active customer programs.
- Build, maintain, and improve test fixtures and data collection infrastructures.
- Perform firmware bring-up and design validation tests for electronics boards.
- Lead prototyping, assembly, and hands-on lab and shop work.
- Plan and execute engineering tests, collect data, and present results to the team.
- Drive manufacturing and supplier activities, including part preparation, first-article inspection, and validation.
- Build and improve engineering and documentation processes.
- Partner with senior engineers and program leaders, and present progress in design and program reviews.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a Bachelor's or Master's program in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
- Ability to commit to a full-time, minimum 6-month co-op rotation.
- Strong curiosity and a willingness to work across different engineering disciplines.
- Comfort working in a lab or shop environment with hardware and tools.
- Clear communication skills to document work, present results, and ask questions.
- Prior hands-on experience through projects, labs, clubs, personal builds, or a previous internship.
Location & details#
- This is an on-site role based in Torrance, California.
- The position is full-time and paid.
- We offer a $1,200 per month housing stipend for students relocating more than 50 miles.
- We do not offer visa sponsorship for this role.
