About the role#
This internship focuses on the development of agentic AI systems designed to analyze industrial control requirements and Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) applications. You will work within the Artificial Intelligence Center of Excellence to create AI agents that automatically generate validation plans and execute tests in simulation environments. This project emphasizes open, reproducible research using non-proprietary datasets and open-source tools.
What you'll do#
- Develop agentic AI workflows that automatically create test plans from PLC code and functional specifications.
- Create and refine test cases throughout the PLC code development process.
- Identify and test corner cases, rare events, and abnormal operating conditions.
- Produce fault-injection scenarios, including sensor failures, actuator faults, communication disruptions, and process disturbances.
- Evaluate safety-related behaviors and verify compliance with operational constraints.
- Validate conformance between control goals and implemented PLC logic.
- Integrate simulation-driven testing and automated result analysis into the validation workflow.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a bachelor's or advanced degree program at an accredited college or university.
- Expected graduation date of December 2027 or beyond.
- Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.
- Prior experience in delivering AI-enabled process improvements.
- Proficiency in Python, machine learning, or Generative AI.
- Academic background in Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Computer Engineering.

- Work Modality: On-site (expected in-office Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays).
- Employment Type: Full-time internship.
- Compensation: $22 to $40 per hour.
