About the role#
The Region of Waterloo is hiring a student for the Treasury Services division. This is a four-month, full-time contract running from January to April 2027. You will work on-site in Kitchener, Ontario, performing accounting tasks and financial analysis to support regional operations.
What you'll do#
- Reconcile monthly sales and revenue data against bank accounts.
- Prepare journal vouchers and monthly or annual journal entries.
- Analyze and reconcile debenture transactions and sinking fund investment records.
- Coordinate documentation for investment purchases.
- Create financial schedules, cash flow projections, and annual FIR schedules.
- Investigate and correct general ledger errors.
- Generate reports and maintain spreadsheets.
- Conduct special studies and provide cost-benefit analyses using financial models.
- Perform other basic accounting functions as needed.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a university or college program related to Accounting or Business, with at least one year of study completed.
- Registration as a full-time student.
- Understanding of basic accounting principles and financial accounting practices.
- Proficiency in math and word processing.
- Experience using Microsoft Office and financial software systems.
- Ability to work independently and adjust to changing priorities.
- Communication skills to exchange information and work within a team.
- Ability to support the values of the Region.
- Capability to occasionally lift file boxes weighing up to 11 kg, which involves bending and reaching.
Location & details#
- Location: 150 Frederick St, Kitchener, ON.
- Term: Winter 2027 (January to April).
- Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm (35 hours per week).
- Compensation: $23.67 to $26.30 per hour.
