    About the role#

    RED-Rochester operates a multi-utility generation plant and district energy supplier for the 1,200-acre Eastman Business Park. We are looking for an intern to join our Instrumentation and Controls group. You will work with our team to manage control systems across our utility plants, which include a mix of classic and modern industrial assets. This role involves collaborating with mentors to maintain infrastructure and improve system performance.

    What you'll do#

    • Install, repair, maintain, and calibrate control system devices.
    • Program and maintain the Ovation Distributed Control System (DCS).
    • Design and implement changes to DCS graphics, logic, and final control elements.
    • Support the development of business cases and execute small capital projects.
    • Learn the hands-on operation of steam boilers, chillers, turbines, valves, pumps, and generators.
    • Support field work alongside instrumentation and controls technicians.
    • Develop and document preventative maintenance procedures for major equipment.
    • Create system diagrams, piping drawings, and control cabinet layouts.
    • Use OSISOFT PI to set up data collection, build dashboards, and analyze plant data.
    • Troubleshoot meters and identify unmetered consumption.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment in an Electrical, Computer, Chemical, Industrial, or Mechanical Engineering program.
    • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
    • A valid driver’s license.
    • A desire to contribute to a team-oriented environment.
    • Preferred: Experience in a utilities, facilities, or maintenance role.
    • Preferred: Experience with Microsoft Visio or AutoCAD.
    • Preferred: Basic programming experience in languages such as Java, PowerShell, or Python.

    • Location: Rochester, New York.
    • Modality: On-site.
    • Employment: Full-time.
    • Compensation: $0 - $21 per hour.
    • Physical requirements: You may work in extreme weather conditions and moderate noise levels. You must be able to bend, lift, walk, climb, and carry equipment, including occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds. You will be expected to wear company-provided personal protective equipment.
