About the role#
The Rainmaker Machine Learning Fellowship is a paid, full-time research appointment for undergraduate and graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and recent graduates. You will join the R&D team to work on a scoped machine-learning project aligned with current research priorities. Fellows work alongside mentors to use real sensor and operational data to build models, establish baselines, and create durable research artifacts. This position is open to individuals with backgrounds in fields such as Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, and Engineering.
What you'll do#
- Translate scientific or operational questions into measurable machine learning problems.
- Build or improve training and validation datasets.
- Establish simple, reproducible baselines before introducing complex models.
- Train, evaluate, and debug models using held-out weather events or conditions.
- Produce clear, reusable code and documentation.
What you'll need#
- Strong Python programming ability and experience with a modern machine learning framework.
- Strong quantitative reasoning skills.
- Ability to make progress on ambiguous research problems.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
Location & details#
- Location: El Segundo, California.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Commitment: Full-time.
- Compensation: $8,000 per month.
