Internship - Photonics Design

About the role#

QuEra Computing is seeking a Photonic Engineer Intern to join the Photonics team. This role focuses on building AI-driven design pipelines to accelerate the development of photonic integrated circuits (PICs) for neutral-atom quantum computers. You will work on state-of-the-art optimization workflows to improve the speed and efficiency of iterating and taping out novel photonic components.

What you'll do#

• Explore and build AI-driven photonics design and optimization pipelines to accelerate component design.
• Incorporate Design of Experiments (DoE) and Design for Manufacturing (DfM) principles into PIC design to improve yield and process robustness.
• Partner with photonics engineers and systems teams to align PIC designs with the requirements of neutral-atom quantum computer integration.

What you'll need#

• Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in computer science, physics, mathematics, or a related field.
• Strong programming skills in Python and experience with AI tools.
• Proficiency with PIC development tools and advanced optimization algorithms.
• Solid understanding of PIC fundamental physics and foundry processes.
• Experience incorporating Design of Experiments (DoE) and Design for Manufacturing (DfM) into PIC design.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, communication, and teamwork skills, with evidence of independent work.
