About the role#
The Local Reporting Network helps produce investigative journalism in communities where such stories would otherwise not be reported. This program facilitates partnerships between local newsrooms and ProPublica to support full-time investigative reporters for one-year terms. Fellows work from their home newsrooms while receiving editorial support, guidance, and access to data and research resources from ProPublica. Work is published or broadcast by the fellow's home newsroom and simultaneously by ProPublica.
What you'll do#
- Produce investigative journalism in partnership with newsrooms.
- Provide a project memo outlining the proposed investigative work.
- Collaborate with ProPublica editors and reporters throughout the fellowship.
- Engage with data, research, and engagement reporting resources.
- Publish and broadcast work through your home newsroom.
What you'll need#
- A proven track record of investigative reporting and impact.
- Ability to propose impactful community journalism projects.
- A strong understanding of audience engagement.
- Experience collaborating with editorial teams.
- Backgrounds in fields such as Journalism, Communications, Political Science, English, Public Health, Media Studies, Sociology, or History are relevant to this work.
Location & details#
- This is a remote role based in the United States.
- The position is full-time.
- Applications are accepted on a rolling basis for three distinct fellowship cohorts.
- ProPublica provides a grant to the selected newsroom to cover the reporter's salary and benefits for the duration of the one-year partnership.
