About the role#
As a Surgical Tech Extern at Baptist Hospital, you will work under the supervision of registered nurses and medical staff to support safe and effective surgical procedures. This is a part-time, on-site role that offers hands-on experience in an operating room setting.
What you'll do#
- Prepare the operating room by disinfecting furniture and equipment and selecting necessary instruments.
- Set up and arrange sterile fields using proper technique.
- Use correct sterilization methods for equipment and instruments.
- Monitor patient status and report observations or condition changes to the registered nurse.
- Clean and disinfect the operating room and equipment between procedures, including the disposal of waste and linens.
- Manage inventory by restocking supplies, replacing used items, and checking dated materials.
- Report any malfunctioning or unsafe equipment to the appropriate personnel.
- Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality while interacting professionally with staff and visitors.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited Surgical Technology Program.
- Active BLS certification.
- Strong understanding of sterile and aseptic technique.
- Knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and relevant medical technologies.
- A letter of recommendation from your Surgical Tech course instructor is preferred.
