About the role#
As a Surgical Tech Extern at Baptist Parkridge, you will work under the supervision of registered nurses and medical staff to support safe and effective surgical procedures. This is a part-time, on-site role that provides hands-on experience in an operating room setting.
What you'll do#
- Prepare the operating room by disinfecting furniture and equipment.
- Select and secure the necessary instruments and supplies for specific procedures.
- Open and arrange sterile fields while maintaining proper sterile technique.
- Use appropriate sterilization methods for instruments and equipment.
- Communicate patient information and condition changes to the Registered Nurse.
- Clean the operating room between procedures, including the disposal of contaminated waste and linens.
- Restock, inventory, and organize surgical supplies.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and professional standards when interacting with staff and visitors.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited Surgical Technology Program.
- Active BLS Certification.
- A strong understanding of sterile and aseptic technique.
- Knowledge of human anatomy and standard surgical procedures.
- A letter of recommendation from your Surgical Tech course instructor is preferred.
