About the role#
We are looking for a student to join our Lexington, KY office as an Intern for Engineering Transportation. You will work alongside our team of engineers and technical professionals on real-world infrastructure projects. This role focuses on gaining hands-on experience in the planning, design, and analysis phases of transportation engineering.
What you'll do#
- Assist project teams with the preparation of transportation plans, exhibits, reports, and construction documents.
- Support engineers with technical analyses, quantity estimates, and engineering calculations.
- Help with design activities for roadways, highways, traffic systems, bridges, and multimodal facilities.
- Gather project data and conduct research for engineering studies.
- Review plans, design criteria, and transportation standards.
- Collaborate with planners, surveyors, designers, and other professionals during project meetings.
- Participate in field visits, site investigations, and construction observations.
- Maintain organized project files and documentation.
- Use industry-standard engineering software to complete assigned tasks.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s degree program for Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
- Status as a rising sophomore, junior, senior, or graduate student.
- A basic understanding of civil engineering principles and an interest in infrastructure design.
- Familiarity with software such as MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, AutoCAD, or Civil 3D is preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Attention to detail and a willingness to learn new technical concepts.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work both independently and within a team.
- A valid driver’s license.
