    About the role#

    The Student Zone Helper supports K-12 students with their school assignments within Los Angeles Public Library branches. This role involves managing the daily operations of the Student Zone, helping students with digital tools, and ensuring a productive learning environment. You will work 12 hours per week in three-hour shifts, Monday through Thursday, between 2:30pm and 7:00pm.

    What you'll do#

    • Oversee daily operations of the Student Zone during after-school hours.
    • Prepare, organize, and maintain the Student Zone area, including materials and electronic equipment.
    • Assist students with school assignments and register them for library resources.
    • Help students navigate educational apps and computer programs.
    • Support library staff by maintaining attendance records and participant data.
    • Ensure students follow library behavior rules and maintain a clean, safe environment.
    • Submit field reports, monthly feedback reports, and timesheets.
    • Attend all mandatory training sessions.

    What you'll need#

    • High school diploma with a minimum 3.5 GPA (transcript required).
    • Must be at least 18 years old.
    • Successful completion of a LiveScan background check.
    • Fluency in English, both spoken and written.
    • Proficiency in Google Workspace tools.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
    • Experience working directly with children and families.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Dependability, punctuality, and strong problem-solving skills.
    • Some sites require fluency in Spanish, both spoken and written.
    • Ability to bend, crouch, or kneel frequently and work in close-quarter environments.

    Location & details#

    • This is an on-site, part-time position with rolling recruitment.
    • Locations include Los Angeles, Canoga Park, Granada Hills, Harbor City, Northridge, Panorama City, Tujunga, North Hollywood, and Wilmington.
    • Compensation is $22.50 per hour.
