About the role#
Pluralis Research focuses on Protocol Learning, which involves training and serving large models in a decentralized way on consumer-grade devices. As a Research Scientist Intern, you will join us for a 6-month fixed-term position during your PhD. You will work on foundational research problems as we push our current 8B model toward frontier scale. You will have access to significant compute resources and mentorship from senior scientists.
What you'll do#
- Conduct novel research in Protocol Learning with the goal of publishing in tier-1 ML conferences like NeurIPS, ICML, or ICLR.
- Own a specific research problem that currently blocks Protocol Learning at scale.
- Focus on technical challenges that remain open as the team scales beyond current capabilities.
What you'll need#
- You are a current PhD candidate.
- You have at least one publication in a top-tier ML venue.
- You possess a strong theoretical understanding of deep learning and distributed systems.
- You are proficient in PyTorch and have experience with large-scale training infrastructure.
- You believe in the potential of Protocol Learning for collective and sovereign AI.

- This is a full-time, paid, remote internship.
- We only hire in the USA and Australia.
- Visa sponsorship is available for these countries.
- You must have professional-level English proficiency.
- You should be comfortable working across time zones.
