About the role#
This is a temporary, supervised clinical internship for individuals enrolled in a unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) through an ACPE-accredited program. Interns provide spiritual and emotional support to patients, residents, families, and staff while developing competencies in pastoral reflection, formation, and theological integration. You will work as part of an interdisciplinary care team to deliver inclusive spiritual care across various clinical and behavioral health settings.
What you'll do#
- Provide compassionate spiritual care through presence, prayer, conversation, and reflective listening to individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Complete spiritual assessments and offer appropriate spiritual interventions in collaboration with the care team.
- Participate in individual and group supervision, didactics, verbatim reviews, and theological reflections.
- Assist in leading group spiritual care sessions or services.
- Document individual and group spiritual care visits in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
- Support staff well-being through presence and attentive listening.
- Attend training in behavioral health and safety procedures.
- Participate in Sunday worship services or holiday observances as assigned.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in or acceptance to an ACPE-accredited Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) program.
- A Bachelor’s degree.
- Endorsement or support from your religious or spiritual community.
- A Master of Divinity or equivalent theological education is preferred or in progress.
- Majors in Psychology, Philosophy, or Nursing are relevant to this role.

- Location: Grand Rapids, Michigan.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Schedule: Full-time (27 hours per week).
- Status: Paid internship with rolling term.
