About the role#
Pine Bluff Animal Hospital offers a DVM externship program for students seeking practical experience in a small animal practice. This program supports your transition from the classroom to clinical work. You will work alongside our veterinary team to gain hands-on experience and meet your specific educational goals. We provide a mentor for each student, who will offer instruction and complete a written evaluation of your performance at the end of your rotation.
What you'll do#
Externs participate in the daily caseload of our practice. Under the supervision of a mentor doctor, you will:
- Gather patient histories and perform physical examinations.
- Develop diagnostic and therapeutic plans.
- Scrub in to surgery and assist in managing medical cases.
- Provide wellness care to patients.
- Develop client communication skills and refine technical abilities.
- Produce medical records including SOAPs.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited DVM program.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
- Proof of professional liability insurance, which must be submitted as a certificate of coverage with your application.
Location & details#
- Location: Morris, Illinois.
- Modality: On-site.
- Term: Rolling, with rotations typically lasting two to eight weeks.
- Schedule: Includes days, evenings, and weekends.
- Compensation: A stipend of $250 per week is provided.
