About the role#
We are looking for a Cloud Platform Engineering Intern to help build, automate, and validate infrastructure across AWS, GCP, and Kubernetes. This role is for someone interested in cloud engineering, platform automation, and the use of AI in infrastructure operations. You will work alongside Cloud Platform engineers to build tools that interact with infrastructure, analyze operational data, validate configurations, and produce reports. You will gain experience with production cloud platforms while learning to build automation that is secure, observable, and repeatable.
What you'll do#
- Develop tools and scripts to query, inspect, and report on AWS, GCP, and Kubernetes resources.
- Build utilities for infrastructure inventory, configuration validation, compliance reporting, and health checks.
- Automate cloud and Kubernetes infrastructure using tools like Terraform.
- Contribute to Configuration as Code using Helm, Kustomize, Ansible, and YAML.
- Develop AI-assisted workflows for infrastructure analysis, troubleshooting, and configuration generation.
- Implement safeguards for AI-enabled workflows, such as schema validation, policy checks, and human review gates.
- Integrate infrastructure tools with cloud APIs, CI/CD pipelines, Git repositories, and observability platforms.
- Assist in validating Kubernetes manifests, Terraform plans, and deployment configurations.
- Build reports and dashboards to identify configuration drift, resource usage, security risks, and optimization opportunities.
- Write unit and integration tests for automation and validation tools.
- Document tools, workflows, and operational procedures.
- Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and platform engineering planning.
- Collaborate with engineers to investigate infrastructure issues and identify automation opportunities.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a degree or equivalent training in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field.
- Foundational programming or scripting experience in Python, Go, JavaScript/TypeScript, or Bash.
- Basic understanding of Linux, networking, APIs, source control, and software development practices.
- Familiarity with containers and an interest in Kubernetes and cloud infrastructure.
- Familiarity with Git and collaborative development workflows.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to learn unfamiliar technologies and ask effective technical questions.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Interest in automation, developer platforms, and reliable infrastructure operations.
- Experience with any of the following is helpful: AWS, Google Cloud Platform, Docker, Helm, Kustomize, Terraform, Ansible, CI/CD platforms (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Argo CD), REST APIs, observability tools, large language models, AI agents, automated testing, or cloud security concepts like IAM and secrets management.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, paid internship.
- The role is remote and based in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
- Employment is on a rolling term basis, scheduled to end in May 2027.
