About the role#
Parkland Animal Clinic offers an externship program for veterinary students to gain practical experience outside of the teaching hospital. This program supports your transition to practice by providing hands-on training alongside our veterinary team. You will work with a mentor to meet your specific learning goals and your college program requirements. At the end of your rotation, your mentor will provide a written evaluation of your performance.
What you'll do#
Externs participate in the daily caseload of our small animal practice. Under the supervision of a mentor doctor, you will:
- Gather patient histories and perform physical examinations.
- Develop diagnostic and therapeutic plans.
- Assist in the management of medical cases and provide wellness care.
- Scrub in to surgery.
- Polish your technical skills and develop client communication techniques.
- Produce medical records including SOAPs.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited DVM program.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
- Proof of professional liability insurance.
- Professional behavior and adherence to the standards outlined in our employee handbook.
Location & details#
- Location: Parkland, Florida.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Term: Rolling availability for two to eight weeks.
- Schedule: Includes days, evenings, and weekends.
- Compensation: A stipend of $250 per week is provided.

Parkland Animal Clinic is a veterinary practice based in Parkland, Florida. Founded in 2013, the clinic provides medical care for pets across all life stages.
