About the role#
Packaging Corporation of America is hiring an Engineering Co-op or Intern for the Winter 2027 term in Massillon, Ohio. This role is open to students who have completed at least one semester at PCA and are currently enrolled in a degree program. You will be assigned to a focus area in Process Engineering, Project Engineering, or Reliability based on your major and interests.
What you'll do#
- Coordinate and evaluate trials on paper machines, the pulp mill, and secondary fiber systems.
- Perform routine pulp and paper testing, including weekly quality tests like consistencies, efficiencies, and solids verifications.
- Monitor process sensing equipment for accuracy and reliability, implementing repairs when you find issues.
- Interface with the Electrical and Instrumentation department to improve malfunctioning stock chest loops.
- Assist with paper machine start-ups following monthly shutdowns and conduct maintenance inspections.
- Manage laboratory supplies and chemical solutions, including updating MSDS documentation.
- Take on project management and maintenance tasks as needed.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in Chemical, Paper, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Completion of your freshman year of college.
- A minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0.
- Strong analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Maturity and professional conduct in a mill environment.
- Eligibility to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

- Compensation: $25.00 to $30.00 per hour.
- Benefits: Paid holidays, plus eligibility for medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance. A housing stipend of up to $1,000 per month and relocation reimbursement are available if necessary.
