Software Development Intern

About the role#

The Software Development Intern will support the Technology department at Our National Conversation by maintaining and developing the organization's website. This role involves working closely with the IT Director while maintaining a high degree of independence. The position is remote, requiring strong time management skills and regular coordination via Zoom and Slack.

What you'll do#

• Build and maintain the website from scratch, including database integration.
• Implement new features based on design and functional requirements.
• Write high-quality, efficient, and maintainable code for backend functionality.
• Document the codebase, general structure, user requirements, and system processes.
• Conduct testing and bug fixes to ensure application performance.
• Communicate effectively with team leads and the IT Director, including attending weekly Wednesday evening technology meetings.

What you'll need#

• Current enrollment in a degree program for Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Solid knowledge of PHP and experience with WordPress, including theme customization and plugin management.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting and manage deadlines independently.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Authorization to intern in the U.S.
• Portfolio of previous work demonstrating technical skills.
• Experience with Google Workspace is preferred; knowledge of JavaScript and Python is a plus.

• Location: Remote (based in Los Angeles, CA).
• Compensation: This is an unpaid internship. Eligible students may receive college credit.
• Term: Rolling.
