About the role#
Olde Towne Animal Hospital offers a DVM externship and preceptorship program designed to support your transition from clinical preparation to practice. You will work alongside our veterinary team to gain hands-on experience in a small animal practice. We provide mentorship, instruction, and a formal evaluation of your performance to meet the requirements of your college program.
What you'll do#
Externs participate in the daily caseload of our practice under the guidance of a mentor doctor. Your responsibilities include:
- Gathering patient histories and performing physical examinations.
- Developing diagnostic and therapeutic plans.
- Assisting in the management of medical cases and providing wellness care.
- Scrubbing into surgery and refining your technical skills.
- Developing client communication skills.
- Producing accurate medical records and SOAPs.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited DVM program.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
- Proof of professional liability insurance.
- A professional approach to behavior and dress as outlined in our handbook.
Location & details#
- Location: Southampton, New York.
- Modality: On-site.
- Schedule: Includes days, evenings, and weekends. Rotations typically last two to three weeks, though they can range from two to eight weeks.
- Compensation: A stipend of $250 per week is provided.
