Odys Aviation is seeking a motivated Robotics & Embedded Systems Intern to join the engineering team in Long Beach. This role focuses on the assembly, integration, and testing of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) platforms used for research and development. This is a hands-on position ideal for students interested in drones, mechatronics, and embedded systems who enjoy working directly with hardware.
What you'll do#
- Assemble and maintain UAV platforms for research and development.
- Integrate sensors, cameras, radios, and communication modules into onboard compute systems.
- Perform wiring, soldering, and hardware setup for electronics.
- Verify hardware functionality, including power distribution, communication, and sensor outputs.
- Assist with bench testing and preparation for flight testing operations, including travel to field sites as needed.
- Document wiring diagrams, system configurations, and integration procedures.
- Support software tasks such as device testing and logging via scripting.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Robotics, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong interest in robotics systems and UAVs.
- Basic knowledge of electronics and electrical systems.
- Practical experience with wiring, connectors, or soldering.
- Familiarity with Linux and basic programming in Python or C++.
- Ability to work hands-on with hardware and troubleshoot technical issues.
- Experience with ROS2 is required.
- Preferred qualifications include experience with drones, embedded systems, microcontrollers, communication protocols (UART, SPI, CAN, I2C), PX4 autopilot, and sensor integration.
