About the role#
Oakhurst Veterinary Hospital offers a flexible externship program for veterinary students. This program provides practical experience in a small animal practice to help you prepare for your career after graduation. You will work alongside our veterinary team under the supervision of a mentor doctor. Rotations typically last two to three weeks, though they can range from two to eight weeks depending on your curriculum requirements. You will receive a stipend of $250 per week.
What you'll do#
- Gather patient histories and perform physical examinations.
- Develop diagnostic and therapeutic plans.
- Assist in the management of medical cases and provide wellness care.
- Participate in all aspects of patient care, including surgery.
- Develop client communication and technical skills.
- Produce accurate medical records, including SOAPs.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited DVM program.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
- Proof of professional liability insurance.
- Ability to work a schedule that includes days, evenings, and weekends.
