About the role#
This internship supports the SA Lab staff in analyzing samples prepared by the TFT team. You will handle sample preparation, conduct analysis, manage documentation, and organize storage for future retrieval. This role requires flexibility and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
What you'll do#
- Operate lab equipment including the Lambda 1050 Spectrophotometer, Haze Gard, Colorsphere, FTIR, Four Point Probe, and Profilometer.
- Prepare samples such as CVD coated products, plant trial samples, and customer-generated materials.
- Follow established procedures for FAAS analysis and adhere to all lab SOPs.
- Maintain 5S standards in the lab and keep accurate records in accordance with ISO9001:2000 requirements.
- Analyze coating defects submitted by the Manufacturing or Sales & Marketing teams.
- Participate in weekly MSC analysis and enter data into ERS.
- Characterize CVD coated glass samples using Development Center instruments.
- Report equipment issues and suggest improvements for lab operations.
- Handle chemicals safely according to SDS standards and prioritize safety in all lab activities.
- Assist with plant trials near Northwood, including sample delivery and cold end support.
- Adhere to NSG/Pilkington Standards of Business Conduct.
What you'll need#
- Pursuing an undergraduate degree in Chemistry, Physics, Biology, or Chemical, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering.
- Demonstrated hands-on technical skills and strong analytical problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to work effectively in team environments and communicate clearly.
- Demonstrated commitment to safe and ethical behavior.
- Experience in an industrial laboratory environment or with hazardous chemicals is preferred.
- A self-starter mindset with a desire for learning and improvement is preferred.
