About the role#
This temporary part-time position offers nursing students the chance to work in a clinical setting at Palmerston and District Hospital. As an unregulated care provider, you will work alongside a primary nurse to support patient care and gain hands-on experience. This role is non-union.
What you'll do#
- Work under the direct supervision of a nurse to provide patient care.
- Assist with daily tasks including hygiene, grooming, comfort, safety, mobility, and nutrition.
- Respond to call bells and observe patient status, reporting findings to the nursing staff.
- Orient patients and families upon admission.
- Attend staff meetings and educational sessions.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and support safety practices for staff and patients.
- Perform additional non-patient care tasks as required by the clinical team.
- Use critical thinking and teamwork to solve problems.
- Seek assistance whenever you are unsure of a task.
What you'll need#
- Completion of year 3 of an RN program or year 2 of an RPN program.
- Current BCLS certification and up-to-date immunization records.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a preceptor nurse and the broader health care team.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
- Knowledge of infection prevention and control practices.
- Ability to follow instructions accurately.
- Two letters of reference, including one from a nursing instructor.
- Successful completion of a Police Vulnerable Sector Check and a pre-employment health assessment.
Location & details#
- Location: Palmerston, Ontario.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Compensation: $20.60 per hour.
- Schedule: Must be available for 12-hour day and night shifts, including 2 out of 4 weekends.
