About the role#
Nexus Family Healing is looking for a Clinical Intern to join our Austin campus. This role focuses on applying classroom theory to practical work within a trauma-informed residential facility. You will work directly with youth and families to gain experience in the mental and behavioral health field. This is an unpaid internship.
What you'll do#
- Complete the learning objectives required by your academic program.
- Participate in orientation and onboarding to learn our policies and safety procedures.
- Protect the confidentiality of all treatment and service information.
- Maintain your agreed-upon schedule and arrive on time.
- Meet all supervision requirements and expectations.
- Act ethically and professionally when working with clients, coworkers, and external contacts.
- Assist with other tasks and projects as needed.
- Participate in physical interventions and restraints of clients when necessary.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a bachelor’s, master’s, or graduate program in behavioral sciences, human services, or a related field.
- Completion of the required number of human services experience hours for your internship level.
- A valid driver's license.
- Ability to pass a DHS background check.
- Ability to build relationships with diverse individuals and communities.
- Openness to meeting the cultural needs of the people you serve.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted and stand or walk for 2 to 4 hours.
- Completion of the Handle With Care behavior intervention training.
- Knowledge of family-based philosophy and practice is preferred.
