About the role#
Newtown Savings Bank offers a 12-week paid summer internship program running from late May through mid-August. This program provides an immersion into the banking industry, allowing students to work on projects and collaborate with experienced professionals. Interns will participate in professional development sessions and engage with executive leadership. We are looking for students who can commit to the full 12-week schedule.
What you'll do#
Interns will be assigned to specific departments, including Deposit Operations, Finance, Fraud/BSA, Risk Management, Human Resources, or Loan Origination. Depending on your assignment, you may:
- Observe backend banking processes and daily operations.
- Assist with testing activities, reporting, and daily reconciliations.
- Process accounts payable, balancing, and currency transaction reports.
- Conduct Customer Due Diligence and review fraud alerts.
- Support vendor risk management, internal audits, and information security tasks.
- Assist with HR functions like recruiting, onboarding, benefits administration, and event planning.
- Evaluate operational workflows to reduce manual effort and use AI to automate tasks.
- Participate in meetings with business units and contribute to special projects.
What you'll need#
- You are a current college student pursuing a degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Human Resources, Computer Science, or Criminal Justice.
- You possess strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- You have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
- You can handle confidential information with discretion.
- You are a quick learner who is adaptable, self-driven, and team-oriented.
- You have effective written and verbal communication skills.
- You have an interest in learning about banking systems or utilizing AI tools.
- Previous work or internship experience is preferred.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, on-site role based in Newtown, Connecticut.
- The schedule is 37.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday.
