About the role#
This externship provides hands-on experience in a clinical front office setting. You will support our team by managing patient interactions and administrative tasks at our San Marcos location. This role is unpaid and focuses on applying skills learned in your academic program to real-world health care operations.
What you'll do#
- Answer incoming phone calls and determine the right course of action for each caller.
- Greet and assist patients, visitors, and salespeople in person, by phone, or through mail.
- Call patients to provide appointment reminders and ensure they have necessary documents.
- Schedule appointments and enter data into our electronic system.
- Track filled and cancelled appointments.
- Prepare patient charts for upcoming visits.
- Verify patient arrival times during the registration process.
- Process and record patient payments in the computer and ledger.
- Update patient records and make corrections in our system as needed.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Medical Administrative Assistant or Medical Office Specialist program at one of our partnership schools.
- Availability Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM for the duration of the externship.
- A professional and dependable approach with a desire to learn in a clinical setting.
- Bilingual skills in English and Spanish are preferred.
