About the role#
This is a full-time, paid internship at Pioneer Equine Hospital in Oakdale, California. The program spans from Summer 2027 through Spring 2028. You will work in a 22,000 square foot facility that serves as a full-service referral hospital. The practice focuses on performance horses, including western, hunter/jumper, and dressage disciplines, while also supporting the local non-performance horse community. The workload is split between 80% hospital-based care and 20% ambulatory services.
What you'll do#
- Provide clinical care for performance and non-performance horses.
- Assist with surgical procedures and lameness evaluations.
- Support emergency and medical cases.
- Help with reproductive services, such as artificial insemination and foaling.
- Manage inpatients and perform ambulatory duties.
What you'll need#
- A veterinary degree.
- Academic background in Biology or Biomedical Sciences.
- A specific interest in equine general practice or sports medicine.
- An interest in pursuing future residencies in surgery, medicine, or other equine specialties.
