About the role#
Join our team at the Ames Research Center to develop a Moon Base 3D Concept Design. This project builds the virtual foundation for future lunar habitats and human space exploration. Before crewed missions arrive, autonomous construction tractors and robotic fleets will build surface and subsurface facilities. You will help design, visualize, and simulate these environments by creating real-time digital twins on Earth to test autonomous construction workflows.
What you'll do#
- Model, texture, and render underground and surface habitats, lunar base infrastructure, and autonomous machinery.
- Integrate 3D visual designs into real-time physics engines to create realistic Earth-based simulation testing environments.
- Collaborate with engineers to bridge 3D art workflows with robotic simulation platforms.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Game Design, 3D Graphics, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace, or a related field.
- Experience with 3D modeling and rendering tools such as Blender or Maya.
- Hands-on experience with real-time engines and visual frameworks like Unreal Engine, Unity, or OpenGL.
- Familiarity or a strong interest in NVIDIA Omniverse and physics-based simulation environments.
- Interest in space exploration, autonomous robotics, and habitat design.
Location & details#
- Location: Moffett Field, California.
- Term: Summer 2027 (June 7, 2027, to August 13, 2027).
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Note: This is an unpaid, part-time internship for U.S. citizens only.
