    About the role#

This internship focuses on the development of polymer aerogels for aeronautic and aerospace applications. You will work within the Glenn Research Center to study how different chemistries affect pore size and porosity. These materials are used for host systems, vibration dampening, and energy absorption. Polyimide aerogels are a key focus, as they are lightweight and highly porous materials created through sol-gel synthesis and supercritical fluid removal.

    What you'll do#

    • Synthesize polymer aerogels in a laboratory setting.
    • Perform material analysis and characterization.
    • Investigate various chemical combinations to meet specific material properties.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment as an undergraduate freshman, sophomore, junior, senior, or graduate master's student.
    • Academic background in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Engineering Chemistry, or Materials Science.
    • US citizenship.

    Location & details#

    • Location: Cleveland, Ohio.
    • Term: Summer 2027 (June 7 to August 13).
