About the role#
This internship focuses on the Comprehensive Oculomotor Behavioral Response Assessment (COBRA), a tool used to measure eye movement performance. You will work with existing data sets that track metrics like pupil responses, saccades, and smooth pursuit to profile mild neural impairment. The goal is to build models that classify these impairments and generate predictions based on the data. You will work 40 hours per week at the Ames Research Center.
What you'll do#
- Build and refine models to classify impairment conditions including sleep loss and alcohol effects.
- Use developed models to make predictions based on eye tracking metrics.
- Attend weekly meetings with your mentor to discuss progress.
- Present your project findings at the end of the internship.
- Prepare work for potential submission to a research conference or journal.
What you'll need#
- Experience with Python or MATLAB, including at least one completed project.
- Background in data processing, statistics, and analysis.
- At least one semester of experience in a research setting, such as an academic lab.
- An interest in neuroscience, vision science, perceptual psychology, or motor behavior.
- Coursework in machine learning and perception is preferred.
- Experience with eye tracking and analyzing eye tracking data is a plus.
Location & details#
- Location: Moffett Field, California.
- Term: Summer 2027 (June 7 to August 13).
