About the role#
NAMI Chicago is seeking a Youth Engagement Intern to support community engagement efforts and youth programming. This role involves working under the guidance of the Senior Education and Engagement Specialist to advance health and wellness initiatives for youth and their families across Chicago and the Cook County suburbs. This is an unpaid internship requiring 10 hours per week, with some evening or weekend availability required for events.
What you'll do#
- Conduct research on current youth mental health concerns to inform the development of community-centered content.
- Co-facilitate youth program sessions and support learning initiatives.
- Collaborate with the Senior Education and Engagement Specialist to conduct listening sessions with community-based organizations.
- Revise and improve educational and training materials for youth.
- Cultivate and strengthen partnerships with youth-serving organizations, particularly on the South and West sides of the city.
- Assist with program evaluation, including the development and administration of surveys.
- Document youth mental health needs, resources, and service gaps.
- Attend weekly engagement team meetings and complete administrative tasks as assigned.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a graduate program for psychology, social work, public health, education, or a related field (exceptional fourth-year undergraduate students may be considered).
- Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish, both verbal and written.
- Strong organizational, reliability, and time management skills.
- High attention to detail.
- Passion for transforming the landscape of youth mental health and wellbeing.
- Experience in community organizing, event planning, or school partnerships is preferred.
- Familiarity with Chicago neighborhoods, specifically the South and West sides.
