About the role#
The Office of the General Counsel is seeking an externally funded Civil Rights Litigation Fellow to join the Legal Department for a one-year term. This fellowship aims to help the fellow build a career in social justice and equal opportunity law. Applicants must secure their own funding from a law school, foundation, corporation, or law firm to cover salary and benefits. The NAACP will serve as the sponsoring organization.
What you'll do#
You will work on affirmative civil rights litigation and advocacy. Your focus areas include voting rights, criminal justice, economic justice, employment, fair housing, and equal educational opportunity. You will develop litigation strategies, research potential legal theories, and build factual records. You will also work with other professionals across the NAACP network in an interdisciplinary manner.
What you'll need#
- A J.D. from an accredited law school.
- Recent graduate status with a clear commitment to racial justice.
- Strong research, analytical, written, and verbal skills.
- The ability to meet deadlines while working collaboratively and respectfully with others.
- A willingness to develop affirmative litigation cases.
Location & details#
- This position is based on-site in Washington, District of Columbia.
- This is a full-time, paid fellowship.
