The Per Diem Pharmacy Intern role at Mount Sinai Morningside supports the pharmacy department by assisting with medication preparation and distribution. This position involves working under the direct supervision of a pharmacist to ensure patient safety and accurate record-keeping in a clinical environment.
What you'll do#
- Prepare medications for inpatients, outpatients, and employees, ensuring all transactions are verified by a pharmacist before dispensing.
- Compound sterile and non-sterile products according to established protocols.
- Maintain accurate records for the dispensing of controlled substances, tax-free alcohol, and investigational drugs.
- Operate pharmacy equipment, including unit-dose repackaging systems, total parenteral nutrition compounders, and laminar flow hoods.
- Manage inventory by maintaining adequate stock levels and removing expired medications.
- Audit controlled drug disposition records and report any discrepancies to management.
- Conduct patient care rounds, deliver medications, and perform monthly inspections of nursing stations.
- Assist pharmacists with drug information requests and patient medication profiling.
What you'll need#
- Completion of at least 3 years at an accredited college of pharmacy.
- A valid New York State Pharmacy Intern Permit.
- Proficiency in English, both oral and written.
- Previous hospital pharmacy experience is preferred.
