As a Mechanical Engineering Intern at moss, you will join a focused engineering team to contribute to the development of robotic systems for autonomous agriculture. You will manage projects across structural design, thermal performance, and packaging, working through the full hardware development cycle from concept and prototyping to field validation in live farm environments.
What you'll do#
- Conceptualize new mechanical architectures for robotic systems designed for harsh environments.
- Lead internal and external design reviews with suppliers and partners.
- Develop enclosure systems focused on thermal management, vibration resistance, and weather protection.
- Perform tolerance analysis and DFM reviews with manufacturing partners.
- Own the execution of prototype builds and field-test validation.
- Collaborate with perception, robotics, and electrical teams to optimize full-system integration.
What you'll need#
- Track record of hands-on personal projects demonstrating hardware skills.
- Demonstrated understanding of structural analysis and failure modes of complex mechanical systems.
- Proficiency in CAD software and FEA modeling.
- Solid understanding of GD&T.
- Experience integrating sensors, compute, or power systems into physical assemblies.
- Ability to make first-principles engineering trade-offs and comfort building, assembling, and debugging physical hardware.
- Pursuing a degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Computer, Industrial, or Aerospace Engineering, or Agriculture.
