Software Engineering Intern, Data & Machine Learning

About the role#

This internship focuses on the data and machine learning engineering track, working directly with a mentor on production-level projects. You will contribute to the data layer that powers core home services workflows, building features that reach real users. This is a long-term, rolling track designed for students to engage in deep, meaningful work over 6–12 months. You will receive the same code review standards as the full-time engineering team and are expected to utilize AI-assisted development tools throughout your workflow.

What you'll do#

• Build and maintain Python ETL pipelines, including ingestion, transformation, and reporting.
• Develop data validation and quality checks to ensure production data integrity.
• Collaborate with the .NET team to manage data contracts between systems.
• Prototype and develop machine learning features applied to operational data.
• Integrate LLM capabilities into application features using API calls or agent orchestration.
• Document data models and transformation logic as a standard part of the development process.
• Instrument and monitor pipelines to identify and resolve data issues.

What you'll need#

• Proficiency in Python, including functions, classes, and error handling.
• Experience with data manipulation using pandas or similar libraries.
• Practical knowledge of SQL, including non-trivial queries and joins.
• Habitual use of AI tools for EDA, code generation, debugging, and documentation.
• Intellectual curiosity regarding data patterns and anomalies.
• Exposure to machine learning libraries such as scikit-learn or PyTorch.
• Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.
