About the role#
Montpelier Veterinary Hospital offers a flexible externship program for students currently enrolled in a DVM curriculum. This program provides practical experience in a small animal practice setting, allowing you to work alongside our veterinary team. You will be assigned a mentor to help you meet the learning objectives defined by your college or your own professional goals. We provide a stipend of $250 per week for the duration of your rotation.
What you'll do#
- Gather patient histories and perform physical examinations.
- Develop diagnostic and therapeutic plans for medical cases.
- Scrub in to surgery and assist in patient management.
- Provide wellness care and develop client communication skills.
- Produce medical records, including SOAPs, within daily practice time limits.
- Participate in all aspects of patient care under veterinary supervision.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited DVM program.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
- Proof of professional liability insurance.
- Ability to work a schedule that includes days, evenings, and weekends.
- Commitment to professional and ethical standards of practice.
