About the role#
We are looking for a Medical Assistant Extern to join the team at Meridian Health Pediatrics in Muncie, Indiana. This is a paid, full-time, on-site externship. You will work with providers to support both administrative and clinical needs within a whole-person healthcare environment.
What you'll do#
- Greet clients and answer phone calls.
- Update patient information and handle insurance paperwork or prior approvals.
- Assist providers with referrals, admissions, and laboratory arrangements.
- Take patient vitals and weight.
- Administer injections and TB tests for new employees.
- Pass medications and manage patient assistance medications.
- Screen phone calls and help resolve patient issues.
- Fax and phone in prescriptions to pharmacies.
- Dispose of contaminated supplies according to safety protocols.
- Train to cover tasks for other medical assistants.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and follow department procedures.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited Medical Assisting program that requires an externship.
- Ability to pass a drug screen, TB test, and extensive background check.
- Completion of fingerprinting requirements.
