About the role#
The Intensive Treatment team at the Mental Health Center of Denver offers clinical experience in trauma-informed, culturally responsive mental health services. This internship operates within the Homebased and STAY SAFE programs, which provide stabilization-focused interventions for youth experiencing acute mental health needs. Interns work in homes, clinics, schools, and community settings to support families through crises.
What you'll do#
- Conduct biopsychosocial assessments and contribute to diagnostic formulation under supervision.
- Provide individual and family therapy across home, clinic, and community settings.
- Support youth and families navigating suicidal ideation or recent suicide attempts.
- Participate in safety planning and crisis stabilization interventions.
- Deliver psychoeducation regarding mental health, coping skills, and family systems.
- Engage in case management and coordinate care with schools, medical providers, and community partners.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary treatment team and attend case consultations.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment as a Master’s level student in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy, or a related clinical field (second-year students preferred).
- A demonstrated interest in child, adolescent, and family mental health.
- Proficiency in Spanish is required.
Location & details#
- Location: Denver, Colorado.
- Modality: On-site.
- Commitment: A minimum of 10 hours per week (15 to 20 hours preferred) for a 9-to-12-month period aligned with the academic calendar.
- Compensation: This is a non-paid internship.
