About the role#
The Mental Health Center of Denver is seeking an ASL Student Intern to join the Language Services team. This role offers students currently enrolled in an ASL/English Interpreter Training Program the opportunity to apply classroom knowledge in a professional behavioral health setting. This is a non-paid internship designed to provide practical experience, mentorship, and exposure to community-based mental health services.
What you'll do#
- Provide ASL/English interpretation for various encounters, including health and wellness workshops, classes, and community events.
- Shadow professional interpreters and receive direct mentorship to develop your skills.
- Participate in supervision, feedback sessions, and team meetings.
- Collaborate with the Impact & Engagement department to maintain a trauma-informed environment.
- Adhere to the Code of Professional Conduct for interpreters while maintaining confidentiality and cultural sensitivity.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an associate or bachelor level ASL/English Interpreter Training Program.
- Advanced proficiency in ASL.
- Completed or in-progress coursework in interpretation.
- Preferred majors include Communications, Sociology, Psychology, Human Resources, or Public Health.
- Prior experience in community service is considered a plus.
Location & details#
- This position is based on-site at 456 Bannock St., Denver, CO.
- Interns may be required to float to other locations.
- This is a full-time, non-paid internship with rolling start dates.
