The Material Innovation Center Intern supports the Material and Product Testing Labs by evaluating materials and products. This role provides experience in an industrial lab environment, offering exposure to various testing and reporting methods while developing a technical understanding of polymeric materials. This is a rolling, paid internship that requires on-site work, with part-time hours during the school year and full-time hours during breaks.
What you'll do#
- Perform testing protocols and data collection under the direction of senior lab personnel.
- Operate instrumentation to gather data for compositional and performance analysis, including tests such as FTIR, DSC, TGA, Instron, impact, compression, and creep.
- Compile and communicate testing results to ORBIS and customer requestors.
- Partner with lab staff to develop and implement new test methods.
- Participate in technical meetings regarding material selection and product performance.
- Maintain organized sample storage areas.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a STEM-focused degree program or an associate degree program in a testing-specific field.
- Junior class standing is preferred.
- Applicable majors include Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, and Industrial Engineering.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint, or comparable software experience.
- Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain scientific data to non-technical audiences.
