About the role#
McGill Associates, PA offers a paid, full-time Engineering Internship focused on applying classroom theory to professional projects. This role provides hands-on experience to help you develop technical skills and prepare for a career in civil engineering. You will work directly with Project Engineers on various tasks, with responsibilities tailored to your current experience level.
What you'll do#
- Perform standard design work and assist Project Engineers with daily duties.
- Draft site layouts and perform grading and earthwork calculations.
- Coordinate utility routing and design systems for storm drainage, stormwater management, and erosion control.
- Assist with the design of water and wastewater treatment plants.
- Prepare permitting documents, design reports, and construction plans.
- Support construction administration by reviewing contractor shop drawings and calculations.
- Conduct field inspections, system testing, and site evaluations.
- Help prepare and evaluate project budgets and cost estimates.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related degree program.
- Preference is given to rising Juniors and Seniors.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Strong writing and communication skills.
- A valid driver's license.
- Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D is preferred.

- This is an on-site, full-time internship with rolling start dates.
- Positions are available in Asheville, Hickory, Raleigh, Pinehurst, and Shallotte, North Carolina; Knoxville, Tennessee; and Roanoke, Virginia.
