About the role#
The Continuous Improvement Engineering Intern supports the deployment, evaluation, and implementation of Lean methods within the Marmon Transportation Group. You will report to the Regional Lean Specialist and work directly with employees at all levels to improve safety, quality, and cost performance. This is a development role for individuals looking to build leadership and technical skills in an industrial environment.
What you'll do#
- Collaborate with the local team to identify process gaps and implement improvements.
- Work with the automation team to optimize processes and build project justifications.
- Facilitate and execute Value Stream Maps and Kaizen or Impact Events, including A3 charter creation and follow-up.
- Provide formal and informal training, coaching, and mentoring to employees to support sustainable business improvements.
- Establish and implement performance measures and report progress against plant objectives.
- Conduct assessments of critical sites and business needs in partnership with site leadership.
What you'll need#
- Current pursuit of a degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Operations Management.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel, Word, SharePoint, and Smartsheets.
- Working knowledge of CAD packages such as SolidWorks or Fusion 360.
- Previous experience with Lean or automation through internships, projects, or coursework.
- Ability to travel 20-50% to other facilities and shops.
- Strong initiative and the ability to influence others to achieve results.
