About the role#
The Continuous Improvement Engineering Co-op reports to the Regional Lean Specialist. You will support the deployment, evaluation, and implementation of Lean methods within the Marmon Transportation Group. This role focuses on improving safety, quality, and cost while working directly with employees at all levels of the plant.
What you'll do#
- Identify process gaps and implement improvement activities to boost safety, quality, and delivery metrics.
- Manage lean transformational activities and projects at the plant level.
- Collaborate with the automation team to optimize processes and build justifications for new projects.
- Facilitate Value Stream Maps and Kaizen events from initial planning through sustainment.
- Coach process owners and employees on engineering and Lean methods.
- Establish performance measures and report progress against plant objectives.
- Partner with site leadership to assess business needs and critical sites.
- Develop personal and plant competency plans for continuous improvement tools.
- Manage your own business travel plans and project priorities.
What you'll need#
- Energy and initiative to create programs and drive outcomes.
- Ability to lead and influence others without formal control.
- Capacity to build relationships and earn trust.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel, Word, SharePoint, and Smartsheets.
- Ability to travel 20-50% to other facilities.
- Willingness to relocate to different business units for various co-op terms.
- Independent, self-starter mindset.
- Pursuing a degree in Industrial Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
- Previous experience with Lean or automation is preferred.
- Working knowledge of SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or other CAD packages is preferred.
- Preference for candidates who can work multiple semesters or commit to 4-12 hours a week during the school year.
