About the role#
As an intern at MarksNelson, you will apply your classroom knowledge to real-world accounting projects. You will work alongside industry experts to build professional skills and gain exposure to both tax and audit work. This is a paid, full-time internship for the Winter 2028 term.
What you'll do#
- Participate in intern orientation and technical training programs.
- Shadow and perform procedures on financial statement areas including cash, accounts receivable, fixed assets, other assets, and accounts payable.
- Gain experience with bookkeeping, fixed asset tracking, tax return preparation, and assurance work-paper software.
- Review client financial statements and record necessary adjustments.
- Assist with payroll and 1099 annual filing requirements.
- Work directly with a variety of clients across multiple industries.
What you'll need#
- Completed more than two years of coursework toward a bachelor’s degree in accounting or business administration.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, plus a solid understanding of standard office technology.
- Ability to commit to extended hours and occasional Saturdays during the busy season from January through mid-April.
- Strong work ethic, team-first mentality, and a proactive approach to work.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and analytical mindset.
- Confident communication skills and a willingness to learn.
- Commitment to maintaining high standards of integrity.
