About the role#
The Event Intern supports the Markham events team in planning, coordinating, and executing events for mission-driven organizations. This role offers hands-on experience in event production, logistics, research, and operational support. Interns gain exposure to the full event lifecycle, from initial planning and preparation to onsite execution and post-event follow-up.
What you'll do#
- Assist with day-to-day event coordination, including organizing production materials, timelines, and team resources.
- Support event planning and execution efforts, including logistics, staffing, and onsite event support.
- Conduct research projects to support event planning, operations, and organizational initiatives.
- Assist with the preparation of event documents, schedules, run-of-show materials, and other production resources.
- Provide general administrative and project support to the events team.
- Assist with creative activations, brainstorming sessions, and post-event reporting.
- Support speaker preparation, including coordination and technical assistance for virtual and hybrid events.
- Assist with venue research, scouting, and walkthroughs.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and departments as needed.
What you'll need#
- Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities while meeting deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Eager to learn, ask questions, and take initiative.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with team members.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to travel locally for meetings, site visits, and events.
- Interest in pursuing a career in event planning, production, operations, hospitality, logistics, or issue-based advocacy.
- Relevant majors include Communications, Business Administration, Psychology, Marketing, and Logistics.
Location & details#
- Location: Washington, DC (On-site).
- Term: Rolling, with a program structure running from September through August.
- Commitment: Approximately 20 to 25 hours per week with flexible scheduling.
- Compensation: This is a paid internship.
- Note: Occasional evening and weekend availability may be required based on business needs and event schedules.
