About the role#
As a Student Engineer at MacKay & Somps, you will gain hands-on experience supporting land development and public infrastructure efforts. You will work alongside professional engineers, designers, and surveyors to support project development from concept through construction. This is a full-time, paid internship for Summer 2027 based in our Roseville office.
What you'll do#
- Prepare plans, exhibits, and figures for land development and public infrastructure projects.
- Assist with grading, utility, stormwater, and street design.
- Support hydrology and hydraulic calculations.
- Perform quantity take-offs, basic cost estimating, and data entry.
- Learn to use design software including AutoCAD Civil 3D and Microsoft Office tools.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a B.S. in Civil Engineering or a related field from an ABET-accredited university.
- Completed or current coursework in site design, hydrology, transportation, or stormwater systems.
- Exposure to or an interest in learning AutoCAD Civil 3D.
- Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
- A desire to learn and the ability to thrive in a team-oriented, client-driven environment.
- An Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certification or the intent to pursue one is a plus.
