About the role#
Londonderry Animal Hospital offers an externship program designed to provide practical experience for students in their 3rd or 4th year of veterinary school. You will work alongside our veterinary team to refine your technical, communication, and problem-solving skills. The program is flexible, with rotations typically lasting two to three weeks, though they can range from two to eight weeks to align with your college curriculum. You will be assigned a mentor who provides instruction and a final written evaluation of your performance.
What you'll do#
- Gather patient histories and conduct physical examinations.
- Develop and implement diagnostic and therapeutic plans.
- Assist in managing medical cases and providing wellness care.
- Participate in all aspects of patient care, including surgery.
- Produce accurate medical records in the form of SOAPs.
- Improve your client communication and technical skills within a daily practice setting.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited DVM program.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
- Current professional liability insurance.
- A commitment to professional behavior and dress standards.
- Familiarity with the Veterinary Practice Act regarding your scope of duties.
