About the role#
The Banquets Intern is an entry-level trainee role. You will work alongside experienced hospitality leaders to learn event management concepts and develop your skills. This position is designed to help you prepare for a future career in hospitality leadership.
What you'll do#
- Support the setup and coordination of events.
- Assist in executing service to meet client expectations.
- Greet guests, respond to requests, and ensure satisfaction during events.
- Monitor banquet equipment and supplies, including cleaning and organizing during slower times.
- Learn to manage physical assets for efficiency and visual presentation.
- Observe and assist with team scheduling and training.
- Learn how staffing aligns with labor budgets and event needs.
- Gain knowledge on the safe and responsible service of beverages.
- Observe the implementation of service standards for catering functions.
- Coordinate with vendors and other departments to execute group functions.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in the Hospitality Program at Howard Community College.
- At least 18 years of age.
- Ability to read, write, and understand English.
- Customer service experience.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, XLS, and Micros.
- Experience with POS software.
- Ability to work well in a team environment.
- Positive and outgoing attitude.
- Ability to comply with state gaming regulations, which may include obtaining a license.
- Physical ability to stand or walk for the duration of a shift, reach overhead, bend, stoop, and squat.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull objects up to 25 pounds without assistance and perform repetitive lifting up to 75 pounds.
