About the role#
LiquidPiston is hiring Design Engineer Interns for the Winter 2027 term. You will work within our mechanical design and engine development teams on our rotary engine architecture. This is a hands-on role where you will take designs from concept through CAD modeling, analysis, prototyping, and testing. You will work alongside engineers to solve real problems for aerospace, defense, and hybrid-electric applications.
What you'll do#
- Support the conceptual and detailed design of rotary engine components using CAD tools.
- Create and modify 3D models, assemblies, and detailed drawings that follow ASME standards.
- Assist in design analysis using hand calculations and basic FEA.
- Participate in rapid prototyping processes, including additive manufacturing and CNC machining.
- Collaborate with mechanical, manufacturing, controls, and test teams to iterate on designs.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor or Master degree program in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related field.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks or equivalent CAD software.
- Understanding of mechanical design, mechanics of materials, thermodynamics, and manufacturing processes.
- A hands-on approach with experience in prototyping, basic machining, or 3D printing.
- U.S. person status (citizen or permanent resident) is preferred.
